Believe it or not, some foods that we eat are toxic to our pets. Dogs and cats don’t metabolize foods like we do, which can lead to some troubling situations. Of course, this doesn’t mean if your pet gets a small portion of *some* of the below items, that he or she will be in danger. A small Chihuahua will have a much lower threshold than a Great Dane when it comes to ingested toxins. Below is a list of many toxic foods that we may have around the home, but should be kept out of reach of our pet
- Alcohol
- Avocado
- Chocolate (especially baker’s chocolate)
- Caffeine
- Cannabis
- Coffee
- Compost
- Citrus (some pits, seeds, stems, and some leaves)
- Coconut and Coconut oil (in larger amounts)
- Grapes and Raisins
- Milk/Dairy
- Nuts (especially Macadamia Nuts)
- Onions, Garlic, Chives
- Potato leaves/stems
- Raw Meat, Eggs, and Bones (Salmonella, e. coli, etc)
- cooked bones can also cause issues when they splinter and are broken up
